When it's too hot to head out for a long walk, it's the perfect opportunity to exercise your dog's brain instead. Just 10–15 minutes of training can be just as tiring as a walk!
Here are a few fun ideas to try at home:
Practise a Reliable Recall
Call your dog between family members, rewarding them each time they come to you. Keep it fun and upbeat!
Master the 'Settle'
Teach your dog to relax on a bed or mat. This is a brilliant life skill, especially when guests visit or you're out and about.
Find It!
Hide a few treats around the house and encourage your dog to sniff them out. Using their nose provides fantastic mental stimulation.

Perfect the 'Wait'
Practise asking your dog to wait before going through a doorway, getting out of the car or taking a treat. It's a simple exercise that encourages calm, patient behaviour.
Teach a New Trick
Whether it's 'spin', 'paw', 'touch' or 'roll over', learning something new keeps your dog engaged and builds confidence.
Remember, short sessions of just 5–10 minutes are much more effective than one long training session. Keep it positive, reward success and finish while your dog is still enjoying themselves.
Your dog doesn't always need a long walk to have a great day -sometimes, a little brain work is the best workout of all!
